Whether you are a new YP Program or an old one, running social media accounts is critical to getting the word out and getting your entire student body and community involved. Instagram is the most effective social media platform for YP Programs, however we recommend running accounts on other platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok with a similar set up as below.
IMPORTANT: Reminder, due to trademark and copyright law, you are not to use the terms "FTK" or "For The Kids" on ANY social media post, story, or content. When in doubt, reach out to your YPC for clarification. More Information
- Go ahead to Instagram's website or app and make an account
- Use an email that won't go away. For example use a club email or your advisors email, but do NOT use your personal or school email. This ensures the account can be used in future years.
- Use your Program Name for the Full Name
- Create a username based on your Program name. It should be obvious to users the group the account belongs too
- Make sure you switch the account to a Professional/Business Account and use Non-Profit as the business type
- Add a description highlighting the cause and add a reference to BuckeyeThon for added credibility. Here's an example description that you can use:
- PROGRAM NAME is leading the fight against pediatric cancer and blood disorders in CITY/AREA as an official YP program of @BuckeyeThonYP at OSU
- RaiderThon is leading the fight against pediatric cancer and blood disorders in Reynoldsburg as an official YP program of @BuckeyeThonYP at OSU
- Follow these accounts right away:
- @BuckeyeThonYP
- @BuckeyeThon
- @DanceMarathon
- @CMNHospitals
- @NationwideKids
- @NCHFoundation
- Your school and districts accounts
- Accounts for any student clubs at your school (we are all in this together)
- Create your first post! Use it to post some pictures (if you have some) or create graphics and explain what your Program does
